The colors of this flag represent the following:

YELLOW – unquenched longing
RED – pain, suffering, bloodshed
BLACK – death, mourning, sorrow
WHITE SUN RISING – hope, compassion, help, recovery

This flag is to mourn and memorialize the victims of the Newtown Massacre of December 14, 2012 at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.  The flag also represents condolences and compassion for the families, friends and community of the victims.  Knowing this event will never leave their memories, this flag may help to keep the memory alive among others throughout the nation, so that we do not forget the reasons why we need to make some changes for the good of our society.  We must stop forgetting.

Twenty first-grade children, aged six and seven, plus seven adult educators (including the killer’s mother) were murdered by a lone gunman who then killed himself.

For a video memorial with names, ages and pictures (25 pictures), see the PBS NewsHour Report: “Honoring the Sandy Hook Shooting Victims.”  That web page includes a text list of names and ages (also shown below).  This link is for the same video without the text article.
