Awareness

A place to practice presence in Alaska.

“Awareness is the space in which thoughts exist when that space has become conscious of itself.”

How often do we indulge in unconscious thinking?

How often do we make a conscious effort to invite presence into our lives?

“Opening yourself to the emerging consciousness and bringing its light into this world then becomes the primary purpose of your life”, Eckhart tells us.

So, while I am waiting at that traffic light, or in line at the grocery store, or waiting for a program to load on my computer, I intend to realize that the most significant thing that can happen comes from within me, not from the external world.  This is the beginning of the separation process of my thinking and my awareness.

What will you do today to make space and bring presence into your life?  Share your thoughts with us.

Today I breathe to make space for peace within.

I go barefoot through this day, no shod exceptions, not even for my walks in the woods. I am especially glad to be unshod outdoors.

I step softly through the day, aware of what I walk upon, fully experiencing the presence of my feet upon the earth, and its feedback to my feet. I smile at the cool, dark places as much as the warm, sunny ones. The soft ones and the hard ones are equally precious. The smooth ones soothe me and the rough ones revitalize me.

Walking this way, I expect nothing, but I am ready for anything. I seek nothing of the experience except to be here, aware, knowing I am.

Spirit is essence. Let presence reveal the essence.

When not stepping anywhere on my feet, today I am stepping through Grace’s gifts given us here in images and ideas. Her offerings here are things to step through lightly, to breathe with, to sink into. I open myself to feel them fully, as water feels to the nude floating body. I listen with my heart for the subtle currents here as I listen with my feet to the earth, with my skin to the water.

Today I read and see the beauty of “My Awakening Life” as mindfully as these bare feet read the forest path. Now and then I feel inspired to respond to the reading. Sometimes I do it, especially when asked, as here, now. Mostly I am just in receiving mode, gratefully.

(And, yes, I have pine needles and sap glued to my feet. Such is life in the woods of Balsamea.)
