Thoughts for the Day . . .

“I may not be able to change
the circumstances of my life
but I can change the conversation.”

It’s not how you react, but how you interrupt it.

Today . . .

I shape my perception of things.

I choose how to respond.

Letting Go

letting_go

Are you in the flow of life? Are you able to accept things as they are? Do you get aggravated when things don’t go your way? Do you always have to be in control of every situation by holding on to every detail?
As you look around you, know that the Universe is taking care of you.
When we stop and check into our lives we realize that we have everything that we need – family, friends, talents, things, abundance. When we are grateful for what we already have and let go, life is even more abundant.
Being grateful is a powerful thing. Understand that the Universe will always take care of us as we can let go of our struggles and simply live in that abundance and just be. As we express our gratitude to the Universe, it becomes easy to live with ease and flow.  It is always giving back to us with more abundance.
When we learn to let go of the old patterns of who we used to be, we realize that we can release those things in our lives that make us agitated and keep us in lack. When we are grateful, we become empowered to overcome our struggles and instead of holding on to a specific plan or feeling or thing, we allow ourselves to be free. That’s when life becomes harmonious and happy and joyful. That’s when our soul sings.  That’s when we can just be.  That’s when we are in the flow. You already have everything you need. Let it go, let it flow.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Earth/ Harvest

The Harvest

Every year, this farmer in Lancaster, Pennsylvania announces the daily countdown for the corn harvest. Residents drive past in anticipation of eating the juicy, flavorful sweet corn grown in the fertile valley of Lancaster County.
Ahhh! Hot buttered corn with a sprinkle of salt. As my Dad, and this Farmer would say, “Nichts Besser”.

Photo Challenge: Containers

container
This container has literally traveled almost 10,000 miles, on two voyages, with our belongings in it. And it was no small feat to get it here, as you can see by the giant crane that lifted it from the tractor trailer, over the garage and to its resting place on the ground. We are so thankful that it arrived safely and now the fun begins. It seems like Christmas every day as we discover something that we treasure, forgot about or just question our motives as to why packed it in the first place.

The fastest way to attract something . . .

expect

The fastest way to attract something is to simply expect it.

The Universe has everything you need and it is willing to give it to you. All you have to do is ask for it. Manifest it. Expect it!
We get what we pay attention to. If you focus on happiness, that’s what you will get. Focus on the positive, get positive results.
After awhile you will see that things you paid attention to start to show up in your life.
So get rid of the lack mindset and know that everything in the Universe is available to you.
When we understand what truly fulfills us, it will allow us to lead a life of gratitude. It is easy to get wrapped up in material things that we think will fill our emptiness. So, we go out shopping and by something that draws us in. But after a while we find that it no longer brings us contentment.
We then realize that by pampering our inner needs, we find greater satisfaction in life.

  • Today, pamper your inner needs and be thankful for everything you already have.
  • Start a Gratitude Journal to track your thankfulness progress.
  • Before you get out of bed in the morning, take a few deep breaths. Then think of 10 things that you are grateful for.
  • Set an intention for the day to be happy, to be thankful or to be focused on your inner self.
  • Manifest your intentions! Expect it and it will show up in your life.

Southeast Alaska’s Harbingers of Spring

harbinger_of_spring_southeast_alaska

Spring is a very special time in Southeast Alaska. It’s the end of a sometimes harsh, wet winter, which shares a beauty all its own. But when Mother Nature comes to town in Spring time, she brings with her a plethora of beauty and endless varieties of fresh greenery and colorful plant species.  Spring sometimes lasts well into June or July in these parts, yielding a very short growing season for us gardeners. That’s the time to take advantage of what is provided for us, to gather the bounty and put up for the winter months.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Grand

grand

There is a grand scheme of things.  Finding it? Ah, that’s part of the journey.

Who are you and what is your purpose? Knowing this allows the Universe to take you on a wild journey. But when obstacles get in the way or situations don’t go well, we wonder, “Why do these things always happen to me?”  We’ve all had personal trauma and drama like death, divorce, or losing a job. We complain with destructive self-talk and become our own helpless victims. This is how we live.

grand_sunset

But, what if we harnessed that energy and turned it into something positive, redirected our lives forward, instead of backwards? What might happen?

Take something away from every circumstance, every day. Like the energy and tranquility of the sunset unfolding before your eyes, let your journey lead you, always being open to all possibilities.

There is a grand scheme of things, with many obstacles. Everybody experiences them. There is a reason and a purpose in the grand scheme of things.

About the photos: The sunset photo was taken the same time and to the left of the first photo in Sedona, AZ.
Although there was no evidence of it, it reminded me of a sky where there had been forest fires.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Habit

I recall, as a little girl, my Mom calling us all into the living room to look at the sunset and enjoy the beauty together.  I still find myself doing the same …. calling anyone around me to enjoy its’ beauty and say farewell to this day.  Why, I’ve been in conversation with a complete stranger and realized that Mother Nature was creating a painting for us and the show would only last a few moments.  Stop. Take in the beauty. Be present!
And of course, I’m almost never without a camera.  Here’s a few photos I’d like to share with you . . .
sunset1

One of my favorite photos.  No PhotoShop here. A 360 view, in Alaska, of course!

sunset2

California sunset with tree silhouettes.

sunset3

Back in Alaska, watching the tide come in and enjoying the view.

sunset4

Sky on fire!  Amazing!  I watched this sunset until the last bit of color vanished into the darkness.
What a show!

sunset5

I am always amazed at the different shade and hues. No two alike.

sunset6

Sunset during forest fires.  Ominous and eerie.

My habit …. to enjoy the sunset in the present moments it is available to us and be grateful for the beautiful colors, shapes and textures, then, to capture it on film for future moments to remember its’ amazing beauty.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Good Morning!

good_morning_buddha

Good Morning!

How do you start your day? Are your mornings filled with mayhem or meditation?  How do you feel when your feet hit the floor?  Do you wake up happy or have you fallen into the rut of hitting the snooze a few too many times?

Here’s ten ways to get your day off to a good start …

1.  Awaken your senses.  When you wake, open the curtains and let the sunlight in.  Wake up on the bright side of life. Turn on some uplifting music. Take a few deep breaths. Concentrate on one thing at a time, don’t try to multitask first thing in the morning.
2.  Stretch.  If you have a cat …. watch what it does in the morning …. it elongates the spine and stretches out the arms and legs, one at a time.  Reach for the sky. Loosen those joints and muscles.

3.  Set your intention for the day.  Starting your day out with a positive affirmation makes all the difference in the world.  Recall that intention during the day.  Start by being grateful for something every day.

4.  Meditate for at least 10 minutes before you begin your day, even before your morning coffee or tea. Does your mind start to randomly jump from one thought to another when you awaken? That’s called the “monkey mind”.  When you start your day off with your breath in the morning, you are more aware of your thoughts and have the ability to keep  your monkey mind thoughts in check. You can control your thoughts and enhance your awareness.

5.  Go outside and breath in the fresh air.  Take a morning walk or run and get your body moving.  I find that if I don’t do this in the morning, I won’t do it any time during the day.  I make excuses like now it’s too hot or I get busy with my daily routines. Moving in the morning helps get your day off to a good start and you will feel more energized throughout the day.

6.  Use your morning shower to not only cleanse your body but your mind as well. Focus on positive thoughts and be aware of the water pressure stimulating the muscles of your body.  Be aware of the warmth and be thankful for all you have been blessed with.

7.  Fuel your body with a good breakfast, not loaded with sweets but with high protein and some fruit.  And don’t forget to take your vitamins.  Put your health first.  Eat healthy and organic all through the day.

8.  Journal your thoughts. Start a journal and write down your first thoughts of the day.  Then, write a check list of the things you want to accomplish during the day.

9.  Do something special for yourself each day. You are worth it.  Don’t be so hard on yourself. Some days will  be harder than others. Once you start a routine or practice it will come naturally to you and you will feel the benefits. Keep practicing.

10.  Commit to the process.  Do these things for 21 days and it will become second nature to you. Be patient with yourself.

Finding your Brilliance

sunset_9-1-13
Each of us is a radiant being filled with love, passion, creativity and bliss.
How open are you to the this awareness? Many of us squint and turn away from the brightness of light.  But once you realize that your eyes can adjust, you can bathe in the radiance.
Take a deep breath and let go of all the tensions that you are holding in your body.
Three things to reconnect to your true self:
1.  Breath deeply and let it go.
2.  Do something else like take a walk or be around nature.
3.  Make positive affirmations to yourself like:
I am a radiant being and I feel good about myself.
I choose to reveal the highest and best in me.
I am a strong person and my brilliance shines through me.
I adjust my “crap detector” daily!!
About the photo:  This was the sunset last night that entertained us for about an hour with its changing patterns of clouds and light.  Amazing!
